Crime/ Re: Father, 40, allegedly rapes 13-year-old daughter in Kebbi by PatienceM33(f) : 10:43 pm On Mar 02

Dorcmass: Sulaimon, a resident of Abesan Estate in Ipaja, Lagos, was accused of defiling and sexually assaulting the then four-year-old child at Mahadu Ridwanullah Arabic and Islamic School, Opeki in Abesan Estate.

He denied the allegation. His counsel, Mr Ahmed Adetola-Kazeem, filed a no-case submission, which the court upheld.

The judge upheld Adetola-Kazeem’s argument that apart from Sulaimon denying the charge, the prosecution’s lone witness (Mercy Oluranti) also testified that she was aware that it was a relation of the child that used to have carnal knowledge of her.

The court noted that the witness said one Kehinde Adedeji, who is an uncle to the child, confessed to the crime of defiling the four-year-old.

Justice Oshodi held: “The prosecution has not made out a sufficient case to warrant the defendant being directed to put up a defence to count 1. I uphold the no-case submission concerning this count and, therefore, accordingly discharge and acquit the defendant on this count.

“Count 2 relates to the same victim, but this time, the penetration of her v*gina in a sexual manner by the defendant.”

The court also stated that the witness did not witness the alleged offences, adding that, like for count one, “the evidence of PWI does not raise a prima facie case,” and that “there is no ground for proceeding with defence. I hold that the no-case submission succeeds. The defendant, Anisere Sulaiman, is accordingly discharged and acquitted.”

Romance/ Re: Why do you prefer UPGHANA TO NAIRALAND? by PatienceM33(f) : 11:13 pm On Mar 02

Tranquility: Under a critical view one could notice that majority of the active members of this forum are Nigerians. Further research will show that they are Nairalanders. Now Nairaland is the biggest and most active forum in Nigeria formed in 2005, with over 2 million members. But why would some Nigerians decide to spend most of their time on Upghana formed a few years back with fewer members and lesser topics. There must be something special about this forum, Naija guys and ladies in the hall, oya take this mic and tell us.

Your post made me google Nairaland. I will review the site critically and later add my comment accordingly

Politics/ Re: UN General Assembly demands Russia withdrawal from Ukraine by PatienceM33(f) : 6:08 am On Mar 03

saintbillion: The UN General Assembly on Wednesday overwhelmingly adopted a resolution that “demands” Russia “immediately” withdraw from Ukraine, in a powerful rebuke of Moscow’s invasion by a vast majority of the world’s nations.

After more than two days of extraordinary debate which saw the Ukrainian ambassador accuse Russia of genocide, 141 out of 193 member states voted for the non-binding resolution.

China was among the 35 countries which abstained, while just five — Eritrea, North Korea, Syria, Belarus and of course Russia — voted against it.

The resolution “deplores” the invasion of Ukraine “in the strongest terms” and condemns President Vladimir Putin’s decision to put his nuclear forces on alert.

The vote had been touted by diplomats as a bellwether of democracy in a world where autocracy is on the rise in countries from Myanmar to Venezuela, and came as Putin’s forces bear down on Kyiv while terrified Ukrainians flee.

“They have come to deprive Ukraine of the very right to exist,” Ukraine’s ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya told the Assembly ahead of the vote.

“It’s already clear that the goal of Russia is not an occupation only. It is genocide.”

Putin launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Moscow has pleaded “self-defense” under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

But that has been roundly rejected by Western countries who accuse Moscow of violating Article 2 of the Charter, requiring UN members to refrain from the threat or use of force to resolve a crisis.

The text of the resolution — led by European countries in coordination with Ukraine — has undergone numerous changes in recent days.

It no longer “condemns” the invasion as initially expected, but instead “deplores in the strongest terms the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine.”

– ‘Who will be next?’ –
It also makes clear the United Nations is “condemning” Putin’s decision to put his nuclear forces on alert, a move that ignited an immediate outcry from the West.

Nearly every General Assembly speaker unreservedly condemned the war and the risks of military escalation.

“If the United Nations has any purpose, it is to prevent war,” the US ambassador, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said during her speech on Wednesday.

She accused Russia of “preparing to increase the brutality of its campaign.”

“We’ve seen videos of Russian forces moving exceptionally lethal weaponry into Ukraine, which has no place on the battlefield that includes cluster munitions and vacuum bombs, which are banned under the Geneva Convention,” Thomas-Greenfield said.

Russia’s ally Belarus offered a staunch defense of the invasion, however.

Ambassador Valentin Rybakov blasted sanctions imposed by the West on Russia as “the worst example of economic and financial terrorism.”

And he followed other Russian allies such as Syria in condemning the “double standards” of Western nations who have invaded countries including Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan in recent decades.

Other speakers cited fears of a domino effect should Ukraine fall to Russia. Colombia railed against any return to “empire,” while Albania wondered: “Who will be next?”

From the Arab world it was Kuwait, itself the victim of an invasion by Iraq in 1990, whose denunciation of Moscow was the most explicit, with the rest of the Middle East remaining in the background.

– China, India abstain –
Japan and New Zealand led condemnation from Asia, but the continent’s giants — China, India and Pakistan — all abstained. During the debate Beijing had stressed the world had “nothing to gain” from a new Cold War.

On the meeting’s sidelines, Washington has taken aim at Russians working at the United Nations, leveling accusations of espionage and demanding expulsions.

US President Joe Biden asserted Tuesday in his State of the Union address that Putin had underestimated the response to the invasion.

“He rejected efforts at diplomacy… And, he thought he could divide us here at home,” Biden said.

“Putin was wrong. We were ready.”

I am utterly surprised that UN's response is coming this late. Almost a week after invasion...they could have done better

Romance/ Re: Nigerian lady reveals the number of people she has infected with HIV by PatienceM33(f) : 11:12 pm On Mar 08

saintbillion: A Nigerian lady has revealed the number of people she has infected with HIV after being diagnosed with the disease in 2016.

The disclosure was made in a tweet where another Twitter user revealed how she turned out, 3 years after being infected with the virus.

@NellyNesh19 had disclosed that she was infected with HIV at the age of 21 and is doing fine now she's 24.

She wrote;

Got infected with HIV at the age of 21 am 24 years now and am doing fine

Reacting to the tweet, a Nigerian Twitter user @the_afropolite revealed that she was infected with the virus by her brother's best friend in 2016 when she was just 18. She added that since 2017 when she tested positive, she "has made it a mission to give to others what was given to her without a condom".

The Nigerian Twitter user further claimed that she has infected about 115 guys and 19 girls now, and is still counting.

She wrote;

I got infected by my brother’s best man in 2016 when I was just 18. He was the first & only guy I had s*x wit till I turned 20. Since Dec 2017 I tested positive, I made it my mission to give to others what was given to me, without condom. About 115 guys & 19 girls now & counting.

Till then. I don’t mind dying today today. What’s my life worth if, although a graduate, I cannot get a job bcos I’m HIV positive? What’s my life worth if I’ve to depend on men for every penny I make? What’s my life worth, if I have to take ARV drugs regularly for life?

You think you’ve the right to call me cruel? If you had known Ifeanyi, my brother’s wicked friend, you would have known what cruel looks like. Since no Nigerian bank wants to give me, a qualified banker, a job simply bcos I’m positive, then I must continue sharing it to others.

If a guy, girl or so-called lesbian cannot control her sexual urges, I don’t mind giving it to her hundred times over. Easy money for me, pleasure and then a sharing of my pains to others.

He left cut off the relationship after promising me heaven and earth. Depression got to me and I failed some courses in final year. I only managed to make 2.1 later, this was someone who was in very high first class after third year. Now I’ve graduated and can’t even get a job

It's very sad for her.
BTW, how is she sure she got it from her brothers best friend? She could have gotten it elsewhere...from parents...etc ...Unless the guy is also confirmed to have it

I smell some cynicism in your comment. I believe Whites know the cure to the virus but the economic benefits from the proceeds of sales of Condoms etc would never make them disclose to the public.
