Each year, HiiL Justice Accelerator selects ten winners of the Innovating Justice Challenge and supports them for up to eight months. This year, another group of 10 innovators will win 20,000 Euro each.

Hiil Justice Accelerator encourages innovations that address six main pain points of justice: employment, family justice, neighbour disputes, land and property rights, crime and law enforcement, and migration and human trafficking.

Applications are invited from teams with an idea and a strong commitment, to apply for funding in the Call for Innovations.

In addition, individuals with a particular skill that they wish to apply to the cause of justice innovation, but who do not have teams, can apply for the Call for Talent. Up to 10 individuals will be selected and supported through innovation training, some travel to local events, support for their ideas, and future support.

The criteria for selection include innovations that are strictly justice related and present viable routes to sustainability, scalability and the ability to create social impact in their communities in providing access to justice. It should be a unique idea that does not already exist in a particular region.

The Call for Innovations has over the last five years, awarded funding to over 60 innovative justice/legal technologies from all over the world whilst the Call for Talent is a search for 10 individuals each year with a particular skill that they wish to apply to the cause of justice innovation.

Last year, JustLand, a startup that is solving land dispute problems in Ghana by making land information readily available and transparent to citizens via USSD, received an equity free grant to push their innovation to the next level.

The HiiL Justice Accelerator is focused on finding and supporting innovations that create rights awareness, provide resolution of disputes and legal problems or improve efficiency and transparency in the existing legal system.
Applications opened on March 1, 2017 and ends on June 30, 2017 at 3:59pm.
