Tamale, May20, GNA – Sixteen health facilities in the Northern Region have received Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to help disseminate vital maternal and child health information to expectant mothers.

Each of the 16 health facilities received a mini public-address system (speaker), two microphones, a laptop computer, a projector and its screen and a pointer to help educate and raise awareness on good maternal health tips to keep expectant mothers and their babies healthy

The beneficiary health facilities included; Choggu, Kalpohini, Bagabaga, Kanvili, Kunka, Kubori, Yizesi, Yagaba, Bawena, Daboya, Lingbinsi, Mankarigu, Tuna, Gindabo and Kalba Health Centres, and Sawla Polyclinic.

The presentation was in line with the Technology for Maternal and Child Health project (T4MCH) being implemented in the Northern, Upper West and Volta Regions to help reduce maternal and child mortality.

The T4MCH is a five-year project being implemented by the Savana Signatures in partnership with Salasan Consulting Inc. and Mustimuhw Solutions with funding from Global Affairs Canada.

Mr John Stephen Agbenyo, Executive Director of Savana Signatures, who presented the ICT equipment to authorities of the Northern Regional Health Directorate for distribution to the beneficiary health facilities in Tamale, expressed need to step up efforts to reduce maternal and child deaths in the region.

Mr Agbenyo said the equipment, would, help facilitate knowledge sharing sessions at both facility and community level to educate women especially expectant mothers to attend ante-natal care, deliver at health facilities and attend post-natal care.

He said health staff of health facilities where T4MCH is being implemented had been trained to effectively use the ICT equipment to ensure success of the project.

Dr John Abenyeri, Deputy Director in-charge of Public Health at the Northern Regional Health Directorate, who received the equipment, commended Savana Signatures for its innovation in helping to increase access to health care for expectant mothers in the region.

Dr Abenyeri expressed gratitude to Savana Signatures for the presentation, saying the equipment would positively impact the operations of the beneficiary health facilities.
